AWS announced the launch of AWS Local Zone in Delhi

AWS Local Zones are now available in Delhi and Taipei. Amazon Web Services AWS launches the general availability of the new AWS Local Zone in Delhi. You can now use these AWS Local Zones to deliver applications that require single-digit millisecond latency or local data processing. AWS Local Zones allow you to run applications that require low latency for use cases such as online gaming, hybrid migrations, media and entertainment content creation, live video streaming, engineering simulations, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and machine learning inference at the edge. AWS Local Zones can also help you meet data residency requirements in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, and the public sector.

What are AWS Local Zones?

AWS Local Zones are a new type of infrastructure that places compute, storage, database and other services closer to end users and population centers so you can run applications that require single-digit mili second latency and meet data residency requirements, when an AWS Region is not close enough.

Who should use AWS Local Zones?

You should use Local Zones to deploy workloads closer to your end-users for low-latency requirements. Local Zones have their own connection to the internet, so resources created in the Local Zone can serve local end-users with very low-latency communications.

4 new AWS Local Zones

In addition to the Delhi Local Zone, AWS has announced plans to launch Local Zones in Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata for a total of 4 Local Zones in the country. This is in addition to the second Region slated to be launched in Hyderabad later this year.

AWS Infrastructure in India

AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region was launched in 2016. Since then tens and thousands of Indian customers have adopted AWS Cloud to build with increased flexibility, scalability and security. The AWS Cloud spans 87 Availability Zones within 27 geographic regions around the world, with announced plans for 21 more Availability Zones and 7 more AWS Regions including Hyderabad.
