BHU E-Lottery 2026 – School Admission for Bal Vatika, Class 1 and Class 6 Complete Guide

If you are a parent looking to get your child into one of BHU’s well-known schools in Varanasi or Mirzapur, here is something you need to know right now. Banaras Hindu University has opened applications for its School Admission (E-Lottery) 2026 for the academic session 2026-27. The last date to apply is 20 March 2026, and that is just around the corner.

Agar aapka bachcha 4 se 12 saal ke beech ka hai aur aap BHU ke school mein admission dilana chahte hain, toh yeh article aapke liye hi hai. This article covers everything you need, which schools, which classes, what the age limit is, how many seats are available, how the lottery actually works, what the fee is, and exactly how to apply. Read this carefully before that deadline passes.

Time-sensitive: The last date to submit the BHU E-Lottery 2026 application form is 20 March 2026. Applications are fully online at bhuonline.in. No offline forms are available.

What Is BHU E-Lottery? Why Is There No Entrance Exam?

This is the first question most parents have, and it is a fair one. For younger classes like Nursery, LKG and Class I, conducting a written entrance exam is not appropriate. So BHU uses a completely different and transparent system called the E-Lottery, which is basically a computer-based random draw.

Seedha simple baat karo toh, yahan koi exam nahi hota, koi marks nahi dekhte. Sirf ek computer-based lucky draw hota hai jisme sab eligible bacchon ka naam daala jaata hai. All eligible applicants who submit their forms before the deadline are entered into this digital lottery. On the draw date, a random number is assigned to each applicant using Microsoft Excel’s random number generator in front of an audience. The rank list is decided by these random numbers. No marks, no interview, no merit ranking based on parent’s background or anything like that. It is genuinely fair and transparent.

The only things that determine whether your child gets admission are: whether they meet the age criteria, whether the application was submitted correctly before the deadline, and whether they are lucky enough in the draw. That is it.

This is separate from the BHU SET 2026, which is the entrance exam for admission to Class IX and Class XI. E-Lottery is only for younger classes.

Which Schools and Which Classes Are Covered?

The E-Lottery 2026 covers four schools run by Banaras Hindu University, and admission is offered in specific entry-level classes only:

A quick note about SRSV: Sri Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya is one of Varanasi’s oldest schools, established in 1883 by the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. It has been under BHU’s management since 1918. It runs classes from I to V in both Hindi and English medium as per the NCERT syllabus. So it is not exclusively Sanskrit-focused, despite the name.

Also note that the CHGS primary section actually runs in a building in Kolhua, Varanasi (not Kamachha). The Kamachha address is the main school, but the junior classes are conducted at Kolhua.

Age Criteria – Is Your Child Eligible?

Age eligibility is calculated as on 31 March 2026. Children born on 1 April also count for the lower limit. Here is the age requirement for each class:

School and ClassAge Required (as on 31.03.2026)Date of Birth Range
CHGS – Bal Vatika-2 (LKG)4 to 5 yearsNot before 31.03.2021 and not after 31.03.2022
CHS Mirzapur – Bal Vatika-3 (Nursery)5 to 6 yearsNot before 31.03.2020 and not after 31.03.2021
SRSV – Class I6 to 8 yearsNot before 31.03.2018 and not after 31.03.2020
CHGS & CHBS – Class VI10 to 12 yearsNot before 31.03.2014 and not after 31.03.2016

For Class VI, the child must also have passed Class V from any recognized school. This is an additional qualification beyond the age requirement.

Ek important baat, agar aapke bachche ki date of birth bilkul border pe hai, toh table carefully padho. A child born on 1 April 2022 would be considered eligible for Bal Vatika-2. Thodi si bhi confusion ho toh official bulletin ek baar zaroor dekh lo.

Seats Available – How Many Children Get In?

SchoolClassTotal Seats
Central Hindu Girls’ School, VaranasiBal Vatika-2 (LKG)120
Central Hindu School, RGSC MirzapurBal Vatika-3 (Nursery)40
Sri Ranveer Sanskrit Vidyalaya, VaranasiClass I40
Central Hindu Girls’ School, VaranasiClass VI45 (minimum)
Central Hindu Boys’ School, VaranasiClass VI61 (minimum)

For Class VI, the seats shown are minimum numbers. Actual availability may be slightly higher depending on how many internal Class V students move up.

The 120 seats for Bal Vatika-2 at CHGS look large compared to other classes, but keep in mind that BHU employee wards get first priority here (100% of seats are first offered to employee wards, and only leftover seats go to external candidates). So for parents who do not work at BHU, the actual seats available from external quota will depend on how many employee ward seats remain unfilled.

Iska matlab yeh hai ki agar aap BHU employee nahi hain, toh competition thoda zyada tight ho sakta hai , especially Bal Vatika-2 ke liye. Lekin Class VI mein 50% seats external candidates ke liye hoti hain, so better odds there.

Reservation – Who Gets Priority?

Reservation works differently for different schools and classes in this lottery:

For Bal Vatika-2 (CHGS, Varanasi):
100% of seats are first offered to BHU employee wards. Any seats that remain after employee ward admissions are then opened to external candidates with the following reservation breakdown:

For Bal Vatika-3 (CHS Mirzapur), Class I (SRSV) and Class VI (CHBS and CHGS):
50% of seats are reserved for BHU employee wards first. The remaining 50% go to external candidates.

For all external candidates, reservation is as follows:

  • SC: 15%
  • ST: 7.5%
  • OBC-NCL: 27%
  • EWS: 10%
  • Divyang (Orthopedically Handicapped, 40%+ disability): 3% horizontal reservation across all categories

One important rule: if SC seats remain vacant, they can be filled by ST candidates and vice versa. This interchange happens automatically.

For OBC-NCL and EWS candidates, your certificate must have been issued after 1 April 2025. An older certificate will not be accepted at the time of admission.

Who Counts as a BHU Employee Ward?

This matters because employee wards get such a large share of seats. Here is who qualifies:

  • Children of permanent BHU employees (including those currently on probation) who are in service or were in service during the academic session immediately before 2026-27
  • Children of employees on deputation
  • Children of contractual, daily wager or outsourcing employees who have been working at BHU for a minimum of 2 years from the application last date. (A mandatory service break does not disqualify them.)
  • Children of IIT-BHU employees who were appointed before May 2012, based on a certificate from the IIT-BHU Registrar’s office

However, children of employees working in research projects at BHU are not eligible for the employee ward quota.

For permanent and deputation employees, the certificate must come from the LTC Cell, BHU. For contractual and daily wager employees, the certificate must come from their respective Head of Department. All employee ward admissions are provisional until the certificate is verified.

How Does the E-Lottery Actually Work?

This is the part most parents are curious about, and BHU has been quite transparent about the process. Here is how it works step by step:

Once the application window closes, a list of all eligible applicants is prepared for each class separately. Every applicant is assigned a serial number based on the date and time of their application submission, whoever applied earlier gets a lower serial number.

On lottery day (12 April 2026), a computer generates a random number between 0 and 1 for each applicant using Microsoft Excel’s random number generation tool. The numbers are generated using a “random seed,” which is a starting point for the random sequence.

To keep the process fully transparent and publicly verifiable, the seed number is not chosen by the university in advance. Instead, on lottery day itself, a large bowl of chits bearing random numbers is kept in front of the audience. A person from the public draws one chit and announces the number. That number becomes the random seed for generating the lottery results for that class. The seed is documented so the entire process can be audited later if needed.

Once the random numbers are generated for all applicants, the list is sorted in descending order of these random scores. The top-ranked applicants get the seats, and the rest form the waiting list. There is no way to game this. Early application gives you a serial number but does not improve your odds in the lottery itself.

Documents Needed at the Time of Admission:-

The lottery rank list will be displayed on bhuonline.in on 12 April 2026. No separate call letter will be sent. If your child’s name appears in the main list or waiting list, you need to appear for admission on the given date with these documents:

For Bal Vatika-2, Bal Vatika-3 and Class I:

  • Date of birth certificate issued by Nagar Nigam, or a copy of the Kutumb Register mentioning the child’s name, attested by father/mother/guardian
  • Copy of Aadhaar card of the child and parent(s)
  • Category certificate if applicable (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS)
  • Employee ward certificate if applicable (from LTC Cell or Department Head)
  • Divyang certificate if applicable (from Chief Medical Officer or Civil Surgeon)
  • Registration form printout

For Class VI (in addition to the above):

  • Original marksheet and transfer certificate from Class V, with date of birth mentioned
  • Character certificate from previous school
  • Previous school leaving certificate
  • PEN (Permanent Education Number) from the U-DISE portal, obtained from the previous school

Documents must be original, not just photocopies. If originals are not available on admission day, the admission will not be confirmed. Provisional admission is possible in some cases but always requires verification later.

What If Your Child Is on the Waiting List?

Being on the waiting list does not guarantee admission. If a candidate from the main list does not pay the fee on the given date and time, their seat gets cancelled and the next candidate from the waiting list moves up. This process happens in order of lottery rank numbers.

Waiting list mein naam aana matlab hopeless nahi hai. Kai baar main list ke parents time pe nahi aate ya fee nahi bhart, aur waiting list waalon ko seat mil jaati hai. So agar waiting list mein ho, documents ready rakhna aur dates track karte rehna.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is BHU E-Lottery 2026?

BHU E-Lottery 2026 is a computer-based random draw for admission to younger classes (Nursery/LKG to Class VI) at BHU’s schools for session 2026-27. There is no entrance exam. Eligible applicants are selected by a transparent random lottery.

Is BHU E-Lottery different from BHU SET?

Yes, completely. BHU SET (School Entrance Test) is a written exam for admission to Class IX and Class XI. E-Lottery is a random draw for younger classes from Nursery to Class VI. No exam is involved in the E-Lottery process.

My child applied early. Does that give a better chance in the lottery?

Early application gives your child a lower serial number, but the lottery itself is random. Your serial number does not influence the random score. So applying early does not directly improve lottery odds, but it ensures you do not miss the deadline.

Can a boy apply for Bal Vatika-2 at CHGS?

No. Central Hindu Girls’ School, as the name says, is for girls only. Bal Vatika-2 admission at CHGS is for girls only. For boys in the Nursery level, the Central Hindu School at RGSC, Barkachha, Mirzapur accepts both boys and girls for Bal Vatika-3.

What if we live outside Varanasi? Can we still apply?

The bulletin does not restrict applicants to Varanasi residents only. However, given that the schools are located in Varanasi and Mirzapur, you will need to arrange for your child to attend school there if selected. There is limited hostel availability at some schools.

BHU E-Lottery 2026 ka result kab aayega?

The E-Lottery draw and result display will happen on 12 April 2026. The rank list will be visible on bhuonline.in.

BHU E-Lottery ke liye kya koi exam hota hai?

Bilkul nahi. E-Lottery mein koi written exam nahi hota. Yeh ek computer-based random draw hai. Bas aapko time pe online form submit karna hai aur eligibility criteria meet karni hai. Baaki kismat ka khel hai!

Can we apply for multiple schools or classes?

Yes, but a separate application form and fee must be submitted for each class or school you apply to.

What happens if we do not come on the admission date?

If you do not pay the fee on the scheduled admission date, your child’s seat will be cancelled and given to the next candidate on the waiting list. There is no rescheduling of admission dates.

Is the OBC certificate valid if it is from 2024?

No. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be issued after 1 April 2025. Older certificates will not be accepted.

Final Word from Engineers Corner

BHU’s schools have a legacy going back over a century to 1898, and getting a spot here is genuinely competitive given the number of seats and the interest from families across eastern UP and Bihar. The E-Lottery system actually makes it fairer than a marks-based selection for young children, every eligible child has an equal shot regardless of how much coaching they have had.

The only thing within your control right now is making sure the application is submitted correctly before 20 March 2026. Age criteria, document preparation and category details all need to be checked once before you hit submit. Abhi bhi time hai, form bharo, last minute ka wait mat karo.

If you have questions, leave them in the comments below and we will do our best to help. And if your child is aiming for Class IX or Class XI at BHU’s schools, check out our separate guide on BHU SET 2026, which covers the entrance exam-based admission process for older students.
