BHU SET stands for School Entrance Test. It is conducted every year by Banaras Hindu University for students who want to take admission in its two well-known schools:
Both schools are situated in the Kamachha area of Varanasi and are affiliated to CBSE. Their roots go back to 1898 when Annie Besant established the Central Hindu College, from which these schools were born. Since they are part of the BHU campus, students enjoy access to several university-level facilities that most schools simply cannot offer.
For Class XI boys at CHBS, limited hostel seats are also available on merit basis. There is no hostel facility at CHGS. Boys also get NCC training in Army and Air Wings, which is an added advantage many students look forward to.

One thing to keep in mind: CHGS has no seats for Class IX. Girls can only apply for Class XI at CHGS.

These are minimum numbers. For Class XI, the exact seats for external candidates will be clearer after internal admissions are done. The actual availability can be a bit higher.
Reservations are applied as per Government of India rules, on the seats remaining after internal student admissions:
For OBC-NCL and EWS candidates, your caste or income certificate must be issued after 1 June 2025. An older certificate will not be accepted at the time of counseling. Keep this in mind and get a fresh certificate if needed.

Payment is only via online mode through credit card, debit card or internet banking. The fee is non-refundable in all cases, so be sure to check everything before you hit confirm.

The admit card for BHU SET 2026 will be available on bhuonline.in from 11 April 2026. You will need your unique registration code to download it. BHU will also notify you via email and SMS.
After printing, paste the same passport photo used during form submission, and self-attest it. Entry to the exam hall is not allowed without a valid admit card. There is no postal dispatch, only online download.

The SET 2026 result is expected in the second week of June 2026. Merit list will be published on bhuonline.in. There is no separate call letter for counseling. Keep checking the portal on your own.

This is something most students overlook but it matters, especially in a competitive exam with limited seats.
For Class IX: If marks are tied, the older candidate gets priority.
For Class XI: First, the Class 10 board percentage is used. If still tied, subject-specific marks are compared (Maths marks for Maths stream, Science for Biology, Social Science for Arts and Commerce). If the tie remains even after that, age is the final deciding factor, with the older candidate ranked higher.
Appearing for Class XI? If you hold an NCC “A” Certificate, you will receive 3 additional marks in your SET score, provided you have already cleared the minimum qualifying marks of 33%. If you have this certificate, do mention it in your application form.
