Upon conversations with several VIT Students, it has been predicted that the availability of the seats might not be there after the third counseling session in the branches like IT, Computer Science.
VIT University or VIT, formerly called Vellore Engineering College, is an Indian institute of higher education and a deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC Act. Founded in 1984, as Vellore Engineering College, by Mr. G. Viswanathan, the institution offers 20 undergraduate, 34 postgraduate, four integrated and four research programs. It has campuses both at Vellore and Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
VIT has been ranked No. 1 Private University and 13th overall best University ahead of many IITs and NITs in India , by National Institutional Ranking Framework published by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in April 2016. It has also been ranked 4th best engineering college in India by the renowned India Today Nielsen Survey – 2016. It has been constantly ranked in the Top-10 Engineering colleges in India for the past several years by renowned Rankings which include India Today Group , The Week , Hindustan Times , Career 360 and many more. VIT is surely going to get a place in the QS World University Rankings in the years to come.
Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) continued to be the top choice of candidates appearing for counseling for admission to the various B. Tech. programs in the VIT University, Vellore.
All the 722 seats in CSE in the Vellore campus got filled on the first day of the four-day simultaneous counseling held at the Vellore and Chennai campuses of the University on Monday.
Of the 273 seats in CSE in the Chennai campus, 26 were filled on Monday, when counseling was held for candidates who obtained ranks up to 8000 in the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination.
Mechanical Engineering had the second highest takers, with 133 out of 710 seats in the Vellore campus, and five out of 295 seats in the Chennai campus getting filled on the first day.
This was followed by Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) in which 92 out of 710 seats in the Vellore campus and four out of 295 seats in the Chennai campus getting filled.
Out of the 276 seats in Civil Engineering in the Vellore campus, only four got filled, while there was no taker for the 220 seats in Civil Engineering in the Chennai campus.
For the first time in the history of VIT counseling, the first rank holder in VITEEE appeared for the counseling at the Chennai campus. Karthikeya Sharma of Hyderabad, who obtained the first rank selected CSE in Vellore campus.
All the first five top rank holders appearing for the counseling in the two campuses on Monday selected CSE in Vellore campus.
Sekar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam, Vice-Presidents of VIT distributed the admission letters to the first three candidates who selected their programs at the counseling. While counseling was conducted for candidates with ranks up to 8000 on Monday, it would be held for candidates with ranks from 8001 to 12,000 on May 12, ranks from 12,001 to 16,000 on May 13, and ranks from 16,001 to 20,000 on May 16. The second phase of counseling for candidates with ranks above 20,000 will begin on May 20.
