The selection for ALP under CEN 01/2026 involves four stages:

It is of 75 questions for 75 marks, with 1 mark per correct answer and ⅓ negative marking for wrong answers.
Stage 2 – CBT 2 (Computer Based Test 2) Candidates shortlisted from CBT 1 appear for CBT 2. This test has two parts:
Stage 3 – CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test) Only candidates who qualify CBT 2 are called for CBAT. It tests psycho-motor abilities, the key skill required for operating a locomotive. This includes tests for depth perception, concentration, memory, and visual acuity. This is a unique stage specific to the ALP post.
Stage 4 – Document Verification and Medical Examination Candidates who clear CBAT are called for document verification followed by a medical examination as per Railway standards.
