Ryan International Academy Teams Up with Rotary Club to Plant Over 1,200 Trees Across Pune

In a wonderful effort to encourage young people to care for the environment, Ryan International Academy joined hands with the Rotary Club of Pune Camp for a large-scale tree-planting drive this week. The campaign took place across four Pune campuses, including Ryan International Academy’s Wagholi and Hinjawadi locations, as well as their CBSE and ICSE campuses in Bavdhan.

As part of the “Each One, Plant One” initiative, students and Rotarians planted more than 1,200 fruit-bearing saplings. This effort is a key part of Dr. A.F. Pinto’s 12-point vision for the Ryan Group of Institutions, inspired by the global message: “Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” The initiative highlights the importance of planting trees and restoring nature to fight climate change and protect our land.

Environmental care is deeply rooted in Ryan Schools’ culture. From encouraging students to plant a tree on their birthdays to focusing on recycling and e-waste management, sustainability is woven into everyday activities.

John Alex, Vice President of Ryan Edunation Services, shared, “At Ryan Schools, caring for the environment is part of who we are. With our Chairman’s vision guiding us, planting trees isn’t just symbolic, it’s a habit and a lesson in responsibility. Whether it’s planting saplings at events or managing waste responsibly, we’re nurturing a generation that values and protects the planet.”

This week’s drive featured fruit trees like mango, jamun, jackfruit, guava, rose apple, and star fruit, all donated by Mr. Ravishankar Dakoju. Along with local Rotarians, these saplings were planted with enthusiasm across all four campuses.

Neil Michael Joseph, Director of Baghirathi Group and Happiness in Transit, expressed the deeper meaning behind the initiative: “Inspired by Rotarian Ravi Shankar Dakoju’s vision, this campaign is an act of gratitude towards nature. ‘Each One, Plant One’ is not just about trees, but about teaching young minds the values of responsibility and sustainability. When children care for a sapling, they build a lifelong connection to nature. With a goal to plant one crore trees nationwide and having already established the 1,500-acre Dakoju Rotary Forest, this is truly a movement, growing a generation firmly rooted in love and care for the earth.”

Tree planting projects like this form part of integrated urban sustainability strategies, important for combating heat islands, improving air and water quality, and promoting circular economies through food production and waste reduction.

Educational institutions that embed such hands-on environmental projects help bridge the gap between theory and practice, inspiring the next generation of engineers to design solutions grounded in ecological balance.
