Government of India extends Work From Home For IT and BPO employees till 31st December 2020

Government of India extends work from home for all the IT and BPO companies till 31st December 2020. IT employees got a further extension in work from home from the government till 31st December 2020. The talk between DoT, IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Nasscom was going on since May about this which was getting extended every month and now finally a relaxation given to IT employees till 31st December 2020.

The Govt of India said that the further extension of relaxations in the Terms and Conditions for Other Service Providers in the wake of Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns to facilitate Work From Home. The Relaxations in the Terms and Conditions for Other Service Providers was granted vide letter No.
18-5/2015-CS-I (Pt.) dated 15.04.2020 up to 31.05.2020 and extended up to 31.07.2020 vide
letter No. 18-5/2015-CS-I (Pt.) dated 15.05.2020. In view of the ongoing concerns due to COVID-19, the Department has decided to further extend these relaxations up to 31.12.2020 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The Official Twitter Handle of Department of Telecommunications, Govt. of India tweeted this news saying that “DoT has further extended the relaxations in the Terms and Conditions for Other Service Providers (OSPs) upto 31st December 2020 to facilitate work from home in view of the ongoing concern due to #COVID19.” here is the tweet below

FAQs: Do you still need to go to Office after WFH extension?

It all depends from company to company, IT employees may be called according to your company policy and procedure and also it depends on the business requirements and in that case, you may have to still go to the office. However, if you were doing Wok from Home (WFH)  there is no such problem and your company is forcing you to come to the office then you can raise a complaint and speak to your HR and talk about the relaxation given to employees and the WFH is extended till 31st Dec 2020.

After this announcement, many IT employees started thanking the govt for extending the OSP relaxations saying that it is a great step to ensure the business operates seamlessly in the current environment.
