OnePlus 5T Review – The Beauty with Beast

OnePlus launched OnePlus 5T its premium flagship killer smartphone on 16th November at the same price of OnePlus 5 with a brilliant display and improved camera and some minor changes in design and specification. OnePlus 5T is one of the best smartphones of 2017 which we are going to review today at Engineers Corner. OnePlus 5T comes in 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage and priced at 32,999 & 37,999 respectively.

OnePlus 5T has the fastest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor and features like Face Unlock, Fingerprint scanner, all-metal unibody and NFC etc. Let’s find out what is special about this smartphone and what’s not in the review below.

OnePlus 5T Design and Display Review-

The OnePlus 5T Design and Display is different from the OnePlus 5, It has 6.01 inch Full Optic AMOLED 18:9 Immersive Display with 1080P (1080 x 2160 pixels), 401ppi resolution and a Cover Glass of 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 to protect your smartphone from scratches and dust. Talking about the Display it is very impressive and it is really awesome with features like Adaptive mode, Reading Mode, Night Mode, Lift Up Display and Ambient Display it works pretty well and you don’t have to do settings for the display of your phone, the adaptive display is smart enough to adapt the screen brightness according to the indoor and outdoor conditions. We really like the display of this smartphone and can give tough competition to Samsung galaxy s8, iPhone X.

Coming to the design of OnePlus 5T it has a dimension of 156.1 x 75 x 7.3mm and weighs only 162gram. This device is crafted of Anodized Aluminum design comprise of all metal unibody and it the size of the phone is brilliantly designed taking care of the portability and to carry it in one hand. If you compare OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T design it is completely different. One the fron you will see a bezel-less display and a fron camera of 16 MP.The Phone is very slippery so, one must use a case with this smartphone and that’s the reason OnePlus is also providing a transparent case as well in the box.

The Fingerprint scanner is now at the back of the smartphone and just below we can see the OnePlus branding their logo. The fingerprint scanner is placed at a very appropriate place at back taking care of the symmetry so that you can easily lock, unlock and perform other operation on the fingerprint scanner and yes, it is very fast. The Dual Camera design is placed at the left side corner same as OnePlus 5 but it has a little burp, unlike the previous version.

As you can see in the picture below that OnePlus hasn’t skipped the 3.5mm jack unlike the other renowned smartphone companies like Samsung, Google, Apple. At the Bottom, we get 3.5mm jack plug-in, a USB – C type charger with OTG support and a mono speaker with Dirac HD Sound.

The OnePlus 5T has 3 microphones with noise cancellation. It is designed with On-screen navigational support, a power button on the right and volume rocker along with Alert Slider on the left-hand side. The alert slider is also the best part of the smartphone to instantly set up your settings for ring, silent, vibrate and do not disturb mode. The antenna is also placed on the back sides of the smartphone which is not visible. The NFC tag antenna can be seen at the mid of the two dual cameras.

OnePlus 5T Face Unlock:-

OnePlus 5T has an alarmingly fast face unlock which detect your face in 0.2 seconds, The Face Unlock is what the in the news nowadays after Apple launched Face Id for iPhone X, But this Face Unlock is much faster, It works pretty well in low light as well. even in dark night extreme low light condition if you increase the brightness of the smartphone it can detect your face but it will struggle.

We have to agree that OnePlus 5T is crazy fast and works well, It will not detect your face when your eyes are closed and when someone shows your picture a video etc So, OnePlus has done a great job as they have optimized the camera software with the Android face Unlock. Apart from face Unlock you also have an option of Fingerprint with added features like Swipe up, swipe down and quick pay which works amazingly fast. It also has PIN/Pattern unlock as default. So it’s 100 marks for OnePlus.

OnePlus 5T Performance Review:-

OnePlus 5T sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (Octa-core, 10nm, up to 2.45GHz) with Adreno 540 GPU, It is backed by high capacity 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal memory which is enough for any premium smartphone. The Hardware and software optimization lightning fast performance whether it is for daily apps or under heavy multitasking usage. The Antutu benchmark says it all. The benchmark score of OnePlus 5T makes it stand with the other smartphone which is expensive than this device.

We used this device playing high end games like dead trigger 2, asphalt and other games we found no lag in the game and graphics ws also really great and it fits completely to the 18:9 ratio. We used this device aggressively by using multiple apps at the same time and the multitasking work very well without even a single lag.

OnePlus 5T Camera Review:-

OnePlus 5T Features a 16 MP and 20 MP dual camera solution at the back and 16 MP at the front. OnePlus has eliminated the telephoto lens from the dual lens to give clear photos in low light with aperture f/2.0 unlike the OnePlus 5. It is built with Sony IMX398 and 376K. The dual Camera also sports the portrait mode along with the Pro mode to take better, clearer and professional photos.

It also comes with dual LED flash and video is capable of 4K resolution at 30fps. OnePlus has done a some amazing work and improvement in camera department. It also feature slow motion 720p videos at 120fps. The Portrait mode or Bookeh mode also gave us quite surprising result, You can check the below pictures

OnePlus 5T UI (User Interface) Review:-

The OnePlus 5T comes with the Android 7.1.1 Nougat and Oxygen OS 4.7.2 which will give you amazing smooth UI experience. The Oxygen OS from OnePlus is very close to the stock android so that user can get the amazing stock Android software experience with some tweaks. Also, Oneplus 5T doesn’t have any bloatware apps os the Oxygen OS is pretty neat and clean.

So, basically from the minimal bezels and a highly immersive Full Optic AMOLED display the UI of the OnePlus 5T is really awesome.

OnePlus 5T Battery Review:-

The OnePlus 5T is equipped with long-lasting 3,300 mAh (non-removable), Dash Charge (5V 4A), It gets charges within an hour and frankly it doesn’t take much time to charge, The dash charging feature can give you back up for a day by aggressive usage to gaming, watching videos, the internet over WiFi and cellular data or using camera. With the help of dash charging, you can actually charge your phone for 20 minutes and get 50%+ battery which enough for a day

Also, In some recent research as well many reviewers and tech expert found that OnePlus 5T dash charging is one of the fastest chargers till now. We all know that for anyone battery is the most important factor for buying a smartphone and this can be a game changer for anyone. We at Engineers Corner tested and found that the battery just amazing and from the processor to screen everything is being optimized.

See The Below picture the smartphone still has 21% battery remaining with 6hrs left. It already manage to work for 23 hrs, So basically it gives you a power for a day and you have the dash charging. So, what else you need?

Now, Here is our final verdict of this smartphone, If you really want lightning-fast performance, amazing battery, brilliant camera, beautiful display and design, well optimzed hardware and software and all the latest features in your smartphone then, OnePlus 5T is your answer. OnePlus 5T is power packed device which has all those latest necessary features and technology which a 2017 device should be. OnePlus 5T even gives big competition to Samsung and Apple flagship smartphone at this price.

However, let’s also talk about what OnePlus 5T doesn’t have that is cons of OnePlus 5T. It doesn’t come with Android Oreo but OnePlus has confirmed that an update will be rolled out very soon in 2017 end or early next year after the stable OS release. The next part is IP certified for water-resistant So, OnePlus 5T is not officially IP certified for water-resistant but you can check out online youtube videos where you will see that OnePlus 5T successfully sustained in Water, splash as well so actually these cons don’t even matter at this price.

OnePlus 5T is a “pick” from Engineers Corner. If you are in doubt and want to buy a smartphone then just close your eyes and go for it.
